Diagnosing Vaginal Issues
Many female vaginal issues are not always easy to diagnose. It may seem like things are straight forward but this may not always be the case and it is best if you do not self-medicate. In fact there are certain medical myths related to your vaginal area that you should know and ignore. One such myth is that if it itches it is yeast or trich and if there is an odor, it must be BV. In fact there are many conditions that could lead to these symptoms and the answer is typically not that straight-forward. Another myth is that pain with intercourse can be caused by endometriosis; women with other pain related to sex or women with vulvar pain probably need counseling. The truth is that endometriosis does not cause pain with intercourse and has different symptoms. Another myth related to vaginal health is that you can diagnose bacterial vaginosis, simply by performing a vaginal exam. If your doctor makes any of these claims, it may be time to switch.
