What To Wear Camping
Underwear is a matter of personal choice. Even old-timers seem to disagree about it. In winter, lightweight wool or a mixture of wool and cotton is best. In summer, knitted cotton is most comfortable. Rayon, silk, and especially nylon, are clammy in any weather. Most important is that it be loose and comfortable. Anything that binds or chafes can make walking and working around camp most unpleasant. Leave shorts at home. Even in the hottest weather, blue jeans rolled up are usually better for a camper. You can roll them down when the going gets rough. Many a boy or girl who is well tanned and used to being outdoors has come up with a bad case of sunburn on top of his tan after a whole day on the trail. On a mountaintop, reflected heat from the rocks adds to the danger. Shorts invite chiggers and mosquitoes, scrapes and scratches, and goose pimples when the sun goes down. Take some beef jerky with you camping.
